Vet sales jobs are relatively specialist roles with only around 4000 veterinary practices in the UK.
In comparison to ethical pharmaceutical roles, veterinary sales representatives will spend a lot of time behind the wheel of a car, covering very large areas. You customer group, unlike Doctors, are highly commercially astute and have a string financial interest in the products they buy and use. To a Vet profit is more of interest than price. although price will of course enter negotiations.
The veterinary market is entirely private, so there are not the usual constraints and hierarchies to be found in pharmaceuticals. Salaries are generally a little lower than pharma, and as companies are relatively small (10-20 reps maximum in the UK) promotion opportunities may be rare. However, people who enjoy the environment frequently stay in veterinary sales for their careers.
